Abstract

We provide a comprehensive evaluation of the accuracy of a recently proposed method-of-images modification for improving the accuracy of diffusion-based BSSRDFs.  We find the modification is universally more accurate for computing the exitant flux near the point of entry, but that the overall reduction in error is often shadowed by errors that remain in the rest of the profiles, especially when the relative index of refraction at the boundary is close to unity.  The extension of the model to oblique incidence violates reciprocity and is less accurate than the normally-incident solution.
